What's The Buzz?
The Ketchup Creativity™ Contest - sponsored by Heinz North
American Foodservice - rewards students in Grades 1-12 for
their artsy designs of Heinz Ketchup single serve packets.
What Are The "Rewards"
Twelve students will have their designs printed on over 16
million ketchup packets. The schools they represent will win
$750 worth of free ketchup and $750 to be used toward the
purchase of art supplies. The student will receive a $750 scholarship toward higher education.
Why Did Heinz Decide To Do This?
Special holiday packet designs for the Heinz Ketchup single
serve business were a hit with customers and restaurant
operators alike. The warm reception led the ketchup
marketing team to think about ways that other ketchup
designs might be created - not only for business purposes,
but also for fun and for benefit. What better fit than
students and schools - it's fun for the students, and it
benefits the schools by providing a supplemental teaching
plan and art supplies.
Will The Designs Be Used On All Single Serve
Packets or Just School Packets
The designs will be used on all single serve packets that
Heinz produces. Each of 12 student winners will have his/her
design featured on more than 16 million Heinz Ketchup packets!
How Are The Winners Determined?
Contest entries will be judged on creativity (50 percent),
originality (25 percent) and clarity of the artwork (25 percent).
The judges' decision is final. Three winners will be chosen
from four grade categories: Grades 1-3; 4-6; 7-9; and 10-12.
Will The Winners Names Be On The Packets
Their first name and first initial of their last name, only with parent's permission.
How Do The Students Enter?
Students may enter the contest after their teachers visit
www.ketchupcreativity.com and print out the Heinz Ketchup
Creativity™ Contest Kit.
What's In The Kit?
Teachers will find an easy-to-follow lesson plan designed
especially for their class's age group. The kit includes
templates for the design contest, instructions on submitting
the artwork, fun ketchup facts and nutrition information.
What Does Heinz Hope Teachers And Students
Gain Throught The Contest?
Heinz hopes teachers have fun talking with students about
Heinz, tomatoes, ketchup and lycopene. That's why Heinz put
together the "fun facts" sheet for each grade grouping - it
combines educational information, history on the H.J. Heinz
Company and its founder, tomato health information and
much, much more. Of course, students will use their newly
obtained knowledge to help them design their ketchup packet art!
So Heinz's Benefit Is The Artwork?
Heinz benefits because its gets 12 great packet designs, and
Heinz also benefits because students will have the
opportunity to be rewarded for learning and creating
something special as a result of that educational experience.
The school's art room benefits, as well, because of the grant
that must be used toward more supplies.
Can Students Go To The Web Site And Enter
Without A Teacher's Assistance?
No, teachers must be involved so that students reap the full
benefit of classroom learning.
Is The Contest Open To Students Across The United States?
Yes, it is open to all U.S. school students who are enrolled in
grades 1 through 12. We will also accept the designs of those
that are home-schooled.
